About the Day of Arafah

The Day of Arafah (9th of Dhul Hijjah) is the most important day in the Islamic calendar. It is when Hajj pilgrims stand on the plains of Arafat, and non-pilgrims fast to gain immense spiritual reward. Sins are forgiven, prayers are answered, and it is a day of immense mercy.

  • Day of Arafah is the pinnacle of Hajj, when pilgrims gather on Mount Arafat for supplication.
  • Fasting this day erases the sins of the previous and coming year for those not on Hajj.
  • Prayers, dua, and seeking forgiveness are highly encouraged; the Prophet ﷺ said it is the day Allah frees most people from Hellfire.
  • Arafah precedes Eid al-Adha. The doors of mercy are open, and the rewards are multiplied a thousandfold.
How to Make the Most of Arafah

Practical tips to maximize the blessings of this special day for both pilgrims and those at home.

  • Make sincere intention for fasting (if not performing Hajj) and renew your intention for worship.
  • Prepare personal or family dua lists for the best times of acceptance, especially before sunset.
  • Spend extra time in prayer, Qur'an reading, dhikr, and charity.
  • Forgive others, seek forgiveness, and dedicate the day to seeking Allah’s mercy for yourself and the entire Ummah.
